Dr. Ray Welch

Camp Director, Camps Courtney and McTureous

Dr. Ray A. Welch is a native of Lake Arrowhead, California.  He served 23 years as an active duty Marine in the United States Marine Corps.  During his time in the Marine Corps he worked primarily as a 5804/03 in Corrections.

Dr. Welch has attended several universities and he holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from California Coast University, a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management from Pepperdine University and Bachelors in Psychology with minors in Sociology/Business from Chaminade University.  He is also a graduate of the National FBI Academy, Ericksonian Institute for Hypnotherapy, and various other schools in the field of social psychology and business, to include counseling for incest and rape victims.

His years past Dr. Welch has served as the Supervisor Management Services Specialist for Kadena Elementary School, Okinawa, Japan; Pacific Director, Advanced Degree Programs, Outreach,  University of Oklahoma for  Hawaii, Japan, Korea and Guam; Community Services Coordinator for Camps Hansen,  Schwab, Ii Jima, NTA , Marine Corps Community Services, MCB, Camp Butler; Executive Assistant, Personal  Services Center, MCCS, MCB, Camp Butler, Foreign Language Teacher for Kaiho Senior High School, Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education; English Teacher for Japanese Agena Junior High School, Gushikawa Board of Education, assisting and instructing English Classes for those students in the 7th, 8th and 9th grade; Instructor for Central Texas College.  He also worked for 3 years as the Deputy Camp Commander/Camp Director for Camps Foster and Lester.

Dr. Welch is currently the Deputy Camp Commander/Camp Director for Camps Courtney and McTureous.  On top all his work as Camp Director, Dr. Welch is a prolific writer and has published several articles for the Japanese Teachers of Foreign Language, Real Eigo Articles for Gushikawa Magazine and is pending publication on “Folktales of Okinawa”.  He also records a radio program “Real Eigo” which is broadcast on FM Uruma Community Radio and involves idioms and slang in music as a means to teach English.  He also serves at the Governor for Education with the American Chamber of Commerce, Okinawa, Japan.
