Lieutenant Colonel Stephan P. Karabin

Lieutenant Colonel Karabin enlisted in the New York Air National Guard in 1997 and served as an LC-130 Crew Chief.  He was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps in April of 2001 through Officer Candidate School after graduating from the State University of New York at Albany. 

Primary assignments in the operating forces include:  Platoon Commander and Fire Support Team Leader during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) and Executive Officer (XO) during OPERATION VIGILANT RESPONSE in OIF 2, in Company L, and Combined Anti-Armor Team-1 Platoon Commander during OIF 3 in Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines; Commanding Officer for Company C, 1st Battalion, 3d Marines during OPERATION MOSHTERAK in OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) 9.2; Assistant Operations Officer of 3d Marine Regiment; and as the Operations Officer of 3d Battalion, 3d Marines during OEF 11.2.

Additional assignments:  Advanced Anti-Armor Weapons Systems-Heavy Project Officer at Marine Corps Systems Command; Commanding Officer, School of Infantry West, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, Detachment Hawaii; Personnel Exchange Program Officer for Colombia; and as Deputy for European Command Coordination, Liaison, Training and Assessment Team at the Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group.

Lieutenant Colonel Karabin is a graduate of The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College Non-Resident, Defense Language Institute, and holds a Master of Science in Management, from the Florida Institute of Technology. 

Lieutenant Colonel Karabin served as the XO, Headquarters Battalion, 3D Marine Division, Camp Courtney, Okinawa, since June 2018. He assumed command of Headquarters Battalion on February 22, 2019.

Lieutenant Colonel Karabin´s personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and the Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star in lieu of second award.
