4th Marine Regiment and Camp Schwab Sergeant Major
Sergeant Major Scott A Burton

Sergeant Major Scott Burton currently serves as the 4th Marine Regiment and Camp Schwab Sergeant Major.

Raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sergeant Major Burton enlisted into the Marine Corps Reserves in June 1986.  On September 3, 1986 he reported to Recruit Training, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.  Upon graduation he reported to Ft. Sill Oklahoma for training as a Field Artillery Cannoneer as subsequently assigned to Battery M, 4th Battalion, 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division filling various billets with the M109 Self-Propelled Howitzer.

In August 1989 Sergeant Major Burton was assigned to the Full-Time-Support (FTS) program and reported to NAS Meridian MS for training as Aviation Maintenance Administration Clerk.  Upon graduation, he reported to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Training Squadron 253, Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Cherry Point NC.  October 1991, Sergeant Major Burton left the FTS program and was reassigned to Battery M, 4th Battalion, 14th Marines, 4th Marine Division.  In 1993, Sergeant Major Burton was augmented to Active Duty.

Assignments in the operating forces include:  Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252, Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4, Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26, Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461, Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 363,  Battery I and Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion 11th Marines, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines.

Special Duty Assignments include:  Extended Active Duty (EAD) Recruiter RS Richmond, RSS Newport News; Recruiter, ANCOIC, and NCOIC RS Atlanta, RSS Chattanooga, RSS Kennesaw respectfully.  Company First Sergeant, Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry (West), Camp Pendleton California.

His Professional Military Education includes:  the SNCO Advance Course, 1stSgt’s Course, 1stSgt/MSgt Seminar, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Course, and the Sergeants Major Course.  He is a distinguished graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy where he was awarded the Peter A. Tomich Distinguished Honor Graduate, the John A. Powers Excellence in Communications, and Class 138 Honor Graduate.  Additionally, he is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College Academic Year 2015-2016.

Sergeant Major Sergeant Burton graduated from Columbia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude), received a Master of Science degree in Nonprofit Management from Walden University, and is currently a doctoral candidate in the School of Public Policy and Administration at Walden University.

Sergeant Major Burton’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/gold star in lieu of third award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/gold star in lieu of second award.
