Colonel Brian M. Howlett

Colonel Brian M. Howlett was commissioned a via the NROTC program in 1993. A native of Naples, FL, he holds a Bachelor of Science in History from Jacksonville University, a Master of Science in Management from Troy University, a Master in Military Studies from Marine Corps University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from Air University.

 Upon completion of The Basic School, 2ndLt Howlett's initial assignment was with 1st Battalion, 3d Marines, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Combined Anti-Armor (CAAT) Platoon Commander, and Weapons Company Executive Officer.  In 1997, 1stLt Howlett was transferred to Marine Barracks, Washington D.C., where he served as a Ceremonial Platoon Commander, Executive Officer, and Company Commander. In 2000, Captain Howlett was transferred to 3d Battalion 6th Marines, where he served as the Weapons Company Commander during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan, and assumed the duties as the Battalion Operations Officer in 2002. Promoted to Major in 2003, he reported to Expeditionary Warfare Training Group, Atlantic, and served as a TACP/JTAC instructor, MEU (SOC) Instructor, and Staff Planning Department Head.

 In June 2007, Major Howlett reported to 3d Reconnaissance Battalion on Okinawa where he served as the Executive Officer, and deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  In January 2009, Major Howlett assumed the duties as the 3d Marine Division Training Officer.  For his Lieutenant Colonel Command tour, he served as the Battalion Inspector/Instructor, Marine Corps Anti-Terrorism Battalion, from July 2009 to July 2011.  In July 2012, he reported to Operations Directorate, USEUCOM, and served as the Global Force Management (GFM) Chief and Current Operations Branch Chief.  In July 2015, LtCol Howlett reported to III Marine Expeditionary Force and served as the MEF Exercise and Training Officer until June 2016.  He was promoted to Colonel in May 2016.

 Colonel Howlett is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Course, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Honor Graduate from the Field Artillery Captains Career Course, Distinguished Graduate of the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Air War College.

 His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
