Sergeant Major Aaron C. Colling

Sergeant Major Colling grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona. He reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in 1999 for training with Company I, followed by Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, California. After initial training, he transferred to Marine Corps Artillery Detachment Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

 

In 2000 Sergeant Major Colling reported to 3d Battalion, 11th Marines, Twentynine Palms, California for duty with Battery L and K. Sergeant Major Colling deployed twice in support of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.

 

In 2004 Sergeant Major Colling reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD San Diego, California. As a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Company H, he graduated seven platoons.

 

In 2007 Sergeant Major Colling reported to 2d Battalion, 11th Marines, and served as a Guns Platoon Sergeant and Battery Gunnery Sergeant. Sergeant Major Colling later deployed to Iraq in 2008 as a Civil Affairs Team Chief. During his deployment to Fallujah, he served in support of three infantry battalions. Upon redeployment, he was assigned as the Battery Gunnery Sergeant for Battery F, 2d Battalion, 11th Marines.

 

In 2010 Sergeant Major Colling reported to Operations Division, Plans Policies and Operations (PP&O) HQMC, in the Pentagon. Later, in the summer of 2011, he served as a Sergeant Instructor, Company B, Officer Candidate School Quantico, Virginia. After training officer candidates, he reported back to PP&O and served as a Current Operations Chief.

 

In 2013, Sergeant Major Colling was promoted to First Sergeant and served with Company D, 2d Assault Amphibian Battalion. He then received orders to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines and deployed to Romania and later to Okinawa, Japan. While assigned to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines First Sergeant Colling served as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company, Company G, and Weapons Company.

 

In 2017, Sergeant Major Colling graduated the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 67 in El Paso, Texas and transferred to Motor Transport Maintenance Company, 3d Maintenance Battalion, Okinawa Japan. Selected to Sergeant Major in 2018 he served as the Sergeant Major of 5th ANGLICO and 3d Reconnaissance Battalion. Sergeant Major Colling currently serves as the 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III MEF Information Group, and Camp Hansen Sergeant Major.

 

Sergeant Major Colling earned a Master of Science Degree in Management from Excelsior College, and a Bachelors of Arts in Management from American Military University. Sergeant Major Colling’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
