Sergeant Major Adan F. Moreno was born in Beeville, Texas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 1993, and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California in June 1994.
In November 1994, after completing Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting school at NAS Millington, Tennessee, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, MCAS Camp Pendleton, California for duty as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Specialist. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal in February 1995.
Sergeant Major Moreno was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan in July 1996. While assigned to MWSS-171 he participated in many exercises in the Pacific theater. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal in February 1997.
In July 1997, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 at MCAS El Toro, California for duty as an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Specialist. While assigned to MWSS-373, he deployed in support of Operation Southern Watch. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June 1998.
In December 1999, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to Recruiters school at MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of recruiter’s school he was assigned to RS Lansing, Michigan as a canvassing recruiter. Sergeant Major Moreno was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in October 2001.
In January 2003, he reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 372 at Camp Pendleton, CA. for duty as Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Section Leader. While assigned to MWSS-372 he deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In May 2006, Sergeant Major Moreno was assigned to Marine Corps Detachment Goodfellow, AFB in San Angelo, Texas for Instructor duty. Sergeant Major Moreno was assigned to the Department of Defense Fire Academy where he taught students from all services in fundamentals on Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and Structural Fire Fighting. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in October 2006, and was reassigned as the Detachment Gunnery Sergeant until his PCS in June 2009.
In July of 2009, he once again reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan for duty as an Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Section Leader. While assigned to MWSS-171 Sergeant Major Moreno deployed in support of numerous exercises in the Pacific theater. He was reassigned as the Airfield Operations Company First Sergeant. Sergeant Major Moreno was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in January 2011.
He received orders and reported to 7th Communication Battalion during March 2011 and served as the Company First Sergeant for Alpha and Bravo Companies.
In March of 2014, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to 6th Engineer Support Battalion, and served as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant for Engineer Support Company and Bridge Company A. In December of 2015, he was frocked to his current rank of Sergeant Major.
In December 2015, he reported to Recruiting Station Detroit, MI where he served as the recruiting station Sergeant Major.
In June of 2018, Sergeant Major Moreno reported to 3d Battalion 25th Marines in Brook Park, Ohio where he served as the Inspector Instructor Sergeant Major.
In November 2019 he reported to III MEF, where he currently serves as the 3D Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III MEF Information Group, and Camp Hansen Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Moreno’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/ (2) gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal w/ (1) gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ (1) gold star and (1) CDD, the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
