A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Colonel Brian Harvey graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. He was commissioned through the Officer Candidates Course in April of 1998.
As a company grade officer, his operational assignments were Platoon Commander and Executive Officer, Company F, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines; Company Commander, Headquarters and Service Company, Company I, and Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines; and Fire Support Coordinator, 3d Battalion, 8th Marines.
As a field grade officer, his operational assignments were Operations Officer, 3d Battalion, 23d Marines; Inspector-Instructor and Company Commander, Company K, 3d Battalion, 23d Marines; Operations Officer, 2d Battalion, 3d Marines; G-5 Planner and Staff Secretary, Marine Corps Forces Pacific; Maneuver Officer in Charge, Tactics Techniques Exercise Control Group; and Battalion Commander, Weapons Training Battalion (Stone Bay).
His joint duty assignment was as the Future Operations, Land Operations/ Marine Planner for U.S. Southern Command (2019-2021).
His professional military education includes: The Basic School and The Infantry Officer Course; Amphibious Warfare School (non-resident); Expeditionary Warfare School; Marine Corps Command and Staff College (non-resident); Air War College (non-resident); and Joint Advanced Warfighting School.
His personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
