Sergeant Major Robert W. Schieler

Sergeant Major Robert W. Schieler enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 1998 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island,

SC in July of the same year. He was a student at the Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, NC from July to

August 1998, and assigned the MOS 0311 rifleman. He attended Marine Corps Security Force Training Company, Chesapeake, VA

from September to October 1998.

Private First Class Schieler reported to the United States Naval Academy Company, 8th and I Battalion, Annapolis, MD in October

1998. He was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in April 1999 and to Corporal in August 1999. He held the billets of Sentry,

Corporal of the Guard, and Sergeant of the Guard, while also performing numerous ceremonial duties to include firing parties, funeral

details, marching details and color guard.

Corporal Schieler reported to Company B, 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC in February 2001. He

deployed to Okinawa, Japan from June to December 2001. In July 2001, he was promoted to Sergeant and served as a Squad Leader

and Platoon Guide. From January to April 2002, he was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with the Marines of Company B as part

of Joint Task Force 160 where he served as a Guard Section Leader. He deployed to Kuwait and Iraq as part of Task Force Tarawa,

Regimental Combat Team - 2, from January to June 2003, as a Mortar Section Leader for Company B.

Sergeant Schieler reported to the School of Infantry (E), Camp Geiger, NC in January 2004 until March 2007. Upon graduation from

the Marine Combat Instructor Course, he was assigned to the Infantry Training Battalion and served as a Squad Leader, Platoon

Commander, SNCOIC of the MOUT/Combat Marksmanship Section, S-3 Scheduling and Operations Chief. He was meritoriously

promoted to Staff Sergeant in July 2005.

Staff Sergeant Schieler reported to Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, NC in March 2007.

He deployed from August 2007 to January 2008 with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit as a Platoon Sergeant. In October 2008, he

deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a Platoon Commander. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant

in January 2009. He returned in June 2009 and served as a Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company Executive Officer.

Gunnery Sergeant Schieler reported to Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, Quantico, VA in March 2010. He served as a

Faculty Advisor and Chief Instructor for the Career Course. In December 2011, he was selected for First Sergeant and departed in

March 2012.

First Sergeant Schieler reported to 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC in June 2012. He deployed to

Afghanistan as part of Special Operations Task Force 82 from September 2012 until April 2013. He was then assigned as the Company

First Sergeant for Marine Special Operations Company F and deployed to Afghanistan from May 2014 to October 2014.

First Sergeant Schieler reported to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base Pendleton, Marine Corps Installation-West,

CA in May 2015 was assigned as the First Sergeant for Bravo Company. He was selected for Sergeant Major in November 2016 and

departed in June 2017.

Sergeant Major Schieler reported to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group-38, Camp Pendleton, CA for

duty as the Battalion Sergeant Major from June 2017 until May 2019. He then served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for Combat

Logistics Battalion-13 from May 2019 to February 2021.

Sergeant Major Schieler reported to Headquarters Battalion, 3d Marine Division in Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the

Battalion Sergeant Major in March 2021.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd award),

Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.

Marine Corps Base Camp Butler
