Sergeant Major Anderson enlisted in the Marine Corps on 8 November 1999 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego with 1st Battalion, Alpha Company. Upon graduation Private First Class Anderson reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California.
Upon completion of MCT, Private First Class Anderson reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri to attend the Motor Transport Operator Course for his Military Occupational School (MOS) assignment. Upon graduation of MOS school, he was promoted meritoriously to the rank of Lance Corporal. He then reported to Combat Service Support Battalion 3, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in May of 2000.
During his tenure at Combat Service Support Battalion 3, Lance Corporal Anderson was promoted to the rank of Corporal and Sergeant. He served in the billets of Motor Vehicle Operator, Vehicle Recovery Operator, Chief Dispatcher, and Platoon Sergeant. He completed Vehicle Recovery Course in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and obtained a skill identifier MOS of Vehicle Recovery Operator while assigned to the unit.
In November 2003, Sergeant Anderson reported to Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as an instructor. He served as an instructor for both the Motor Vehicle Operator Course and Vehicle Recovery Course. Sergeant Anderson trained over 350 students in operation of the medium and heavy wrecker. He served in the billets of Basic Issue Items NCO, Publications NCO, and Primary Instructor. He instructed multiple Mobile Training Teams in order to support Marine Corps Forces preparing to deploy to Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In February 2007, Sergeant Anderson reported to Truck Company, 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was attached to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in August 2007, serving as a Convoy Commander. Sergeant Anderson was promoted to Staff Sergeant while on this deployment. After his return he was then attached to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines where he deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in December 2009. He served as the Motor Transport Operations Chief and Convoy Commander.
In February 2011, Staff Sergeant Anderson reported to the Basic Recruiters Course, where he graduated on the Commanders Honor Roll. He was issued orders to Recruiting Station (RS) Twin Cities, Minnesota. He reported in June 2011 to Recruiting Sub-Station(RSS) Coon Rapids and was assigned to the Permanent Contact Station, Forest Lake, Minnesota. After serving as a Canvasing Recruiter for 6 months, he assigned as the RSS Assistant SNCOIC at RSS Coon Rapids, then he was issued orders to be the SNCOIC of RSS Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in June 2012. Staff Sergeant Anderson was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant during his tour of duty at RS Twin Cities.
In June 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Anderson reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 3, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He served as the Motor Transport Chief, Operations Chief and First Sergeant for Transportation Services Company. He was selected and promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in December 2015., and reassigned as the Engineer Services Company First Sergeant, where he served until May 2017.
In June 2017, First Sergeant Anderson reported for duty at 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. He served in Communications, Headquarters, and Intelligence Companies. After being selected and promoted to Sergeant Major, he reported for duty as the Recruiting Station St Louis, Sergeant Major in June 2020. In June 2023, he reported for duty and is now serving as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader at Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, Camp Butler, Okinawa.
Sergeant Major Anderson’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Anderson is marred to the former Tara Dawn Bennett from Cabool, Missouri. They have one son, Conrad, age 5.
