Colonel GEORGE GREGORY MALKASIAN
Colonel Malkasian graduated from the University of Arizona and was commissioned in 1992 through the Platoon Leaders Course. After completing The Basic School, he was assigned to the Basic Communications Officers Course. His first posting was with the 1st Marine Regiment as the Regimental S6-A before transferring to 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, re- designated 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, as the Battalion S-6. During this tour, he deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), supporting several regional theater support and cooperation engagements.
In 1996, Colonel Malkasian reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion as the Battalion S-6. During this tour, he led a Joint Task Force-Six counter drug mission in
support of the US Border Patrol on the Mexican border. He subsequently attended the Amphibious Warfare School before reporting to Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity in 1998, where he served as the Communication Systems Branch Head. He reported to 9th Communication Battalion in 2000, where he served as the Support Company Commander.
In 2002, Colonel Malkasian was assigned to the Marine Corps Communication Electronics School where he served as the Bravo Company Commander. In 2005, he reported to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit as the S-6 and deployed twice as the US Central Command theater reserve. While with the Marine Expeditionary Unit, he supported Humanitarian Operations in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina as well as in Bangladesh during Operation Sea Angel II.
In 2008, Colonel Malkasian assumed command of 2d Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. After battalion command, he attended the US Army War College in 2011 and earning a master’s degree in Strategic Studies. He was subsequently posted to the J53, US Cyber Command, where he led the Special Operations Joint Planning Group.
In April 2013, he was detailed as the first US Cyber Command Deputy Director to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force where he led and coordinated inter- agency cyber support to National Security Staff tasking.
In 2014, Colonel Malkasian returned to the operating forces and served as the Assistant Chief of Staff
G-6 for the 1st Marine Division.
Colonel Malkasian is currently the Commanding Officer of Headquarter Battalion, 3d Marine
Division and the Camp Commander for Camps Courtney and McTureous in Okinawa, Japan.
