Colonel Giles R. Boyce

Colonel Giles R. Boyce graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1993.

After graduating from The Basic School and the Infantry Officers Course in 1994, Colonel Boyce was assigned to First Battalion, First Marines, First MARDIV, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Combined Anti-Armor Team Platoon Commander, and 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander.  With First Battalion, First Marines, Lt Boyce deployed with the 15TH Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1995 and with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 1997.  He was promoted to Captain in 1998. 

In 1998, Colonel Boyce was reassigned to The Basic School in Quantico VA.  Captain Boyce served as a Staff Platoon Commander with Echo Company in 1998 and with Charlie Company in 1999.  He was reassigned to the Infantry Officer Course in 1999 where he served as an Instructor until 2001.

In 2001, Colonel Boyce was reassigned to Third Battalion, Fourth Marines, First MARDIV in Twentynine Palms, CA.  Captain Boyce served as Rifle Company Commander, Weapons Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer. Deployments with Third Battalion, Fourth Marines include the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa Japan in 2001, OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003, and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (2) in 2004.   He was promoted to Major in 2003. 

In September 2004, Colonel Boyce reported for duty to Training and Education Command, Quantico, VA where he served in the G-3 until 2007.  In the summer of 2007, Major Boyce reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff College, graduating in June 2008. 

In 2008, Colonel Boyce returned to Twentynine Palms, CA where he was assigned to Third Battalion, Seventh Marines, First MARDIV.  As the Battalion Executive Officer, Major Boyce deployed to OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM in 2008-2009.  In the summer of 2009 Major Boyce was reassigned to the Tactical Training Exercise Control Group, Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center.  He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in October 2009.  From 2009 until 2011 he was the Officer in Charge of an infantry battalion training corridor with EXERCISE MOJAVE VIPER.

In 2011 Colonel Boyce was selected for command.  In June 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Boyce reported to Camp Lejeune, NC and assumed command of the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry - East.  He relinquished command in June 2013 and reported to the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.  Upon graduation in June 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Boyce reported to Special Operations Command in Ft. Bragg, NC where he served in the J5 as an Operational Planner until June 2017.  While in the J5 he deployed as Liaison Officer to Combined Joint Task Force OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE and was promoted to Colonel in October 2016.     

Colonel Boyce’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device , and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
